OAHU
Oahu, island of wonders and contrasts, from the fun of Waikiki, to the 40 foot winter surf on the North Shore, the dramatically sculptured green mountains, tropical valleys, beautiful parklands, beaches and gardens. The 595 square mile island offers a wide choice of cultural activities, entertainment, beautiful scenery and a superb year round climate. Oahu is the most visited of the Hawaiian Islands and home to Hawaii's Capital, Honolulu which is a world-class sophisticated city with a relaxed tropical atmosphere, it has much to offer the visitor in addition to Waikiki with its wide choice of hotels, restaurants, shopping, parks and it's miles of beaches. Waikiki is one of the finest resorts in the world, with its miles of golden sand, and parks overlooked by the extinct volcano of Diamond Head and by the green Ko'olau Mountains. There is a wide variety of hotels and restaurants from budget to five stars, some of the best shopping to be found anywhere, varied entertainment and cultural activities, every water-sport imaginable and a sea temperatures ranging year-round between 80 - 82°F. Hanauma Bay provides exhillarating diving and snorkelling even for beginners whilst the Polynesian Cultural Center details the history of Hawaii and its Polynesian settlers. The rest of Oahu is a complete contrast with large areas of sugar cane fields, rainforests, spectacular mountain ranges and verdant valleys, country parks, secluded beaches and surfing. Recreation includes every type of water sport; hiking trails, horse riding, cycling and of course world-class golf. Many visitors begin their discovery of Oahu by spending their first few days in Waikiki or in nearby Kahala, taking time to acclimatise, relax, explore, enjoy some great shopping and begin that journey of discovery that leads many to return again and again. Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona Memorial just west of Honolulu is much visited and includes other maritime attractions and museums.
